Archaeological inspection and sample gathering at the Baron Gautsch wreck
At the beginning of July 2021, a team of ICUA Zadar underwater archaeologist and an underwater restaurateur (Roko Surić-Project Manager, Luka Bekić, Maja Kaleb, Ivan Vidulić and Zdenka Vrgoč) with external associates (Sandra K. Buljić, Željko Kamerla, Borna Krstulović, Marko Lete and Robert Lehotkai) inspected the current situation of the famous wreck of "Baron Gautsch" from 1914 - known to the wider as "the Titanic of the Adriatic Sea". Several changes have been observed on the wreck due to its environment and old age. Some samples of the metal part of the wreck have been taken for further analysis. The experts will discuss possible solutions for its continued preservation so that the present generations could continue to cherish this underwater cultural heritage site.
