UNESCO Introductory course on the conservation and restoration of underwater archaeological finds - Central Asia and the Caucasus
As a part of the UNESCO training program for the regions of Central Asia and the Caucasus, ICUA Zadar organized and implemented a two-week Introductory course on the conservation and restoration of underwater archaeological finds. During the course, participants were introduced to work on all materials and spend a few days in each of the workshops (for metal, ceramics and for organic material).
The course consisted of a theoretical and practical segment. During the theoretical part of the course the participants were introduced to all specifics of the conservation and restoration process for each individual type of material from the underwater environment. During the practical part the participants carried out conservation and restoration work on archaeological objects from various underwater sites.
We are glad that apart from the theoretical and practical instruction they were able to see Zadar region as well, mainly Vrana nature park, where they visited Maškovića Han monumental building of Islamic architecture and the sightseeing point Kamenjak.
The participants of the course also held their own presentations, and we had the opportunity to see the heritage wealth of the distant countries of Central Asia.
We hereby thank and congratulate our dear participants Azilkhan Tazhekeyev (Kazakhstan), Batbayar Erdenebat (Mongolia) and Anna Martikyan (Armenia) for their hard work and successful completion of the course. We believe that with the newly acquired knowledge and skills, they will influence the protection and preservation of the underwater cultural heritage in their countries. We wish them the best of luck, success and we are looking forward to their future professional steps.
