Underwater survey in Dubrovnik area ended up with sensational findings

This year's survey by ICUA Zadar and RPM Nautical Foundation, with their research vessel Hercules, achieved greatest success in the south Croatian waters so far. This year underwater robot had finally reached an intact ancient shipwreck from the 1st century BC off cape Pelegrin near Kupari. On Pelegrin site remains of nearly a hundred amphorae in the ranks are visible on seabed, and probably in the deeper layers a few hundred more, end even a wooden remains of the ship. Also, near Cape St. Peter off Kupari another shipwreck with around forty whole amphorae was found, and it is not sure how many of them have been preserved in the deeper layers. Beside these two ancient ones, several shipwrecks from later periods were located too. These successes demonstrate the great potential of this research, especially because they have been achieved despite the fact that technical problems again slowed the progression of the research to the north, in the direction of Dubrovnik. Researchers and ships crew were joined for a working day by Croatia's deputy minister of culture, prof.Berislav Šipuš.
