Underwater research of port Veštar completed

The last campaign of underwater archaeological research in the Bay of Vestar near Rovinj, lasted from 19th to 25th of May 2013, as a continuation of research which began in 2008. Research was conducted by the International Centre for Underwater Archaeology in Zadar, UNESCO Category II Centre. The project also involved the Bavarian Society of Underwater Archaeology and Heritage Museum of Rovinj with the continued support of the Tourist Association of City of Rovinj. In this year's campaign 11 divers and underwater archaeologists as long as several land archaeologists participated. So far in the Veštar bay numerous underwater remains of the former settlement Vistrum were explored, which was the largest settlement in Rovinj area in late antiquity. This year the research was done on the postmedieval pier, in order to better explore trade and workshop activities of 16th to the 18th century period.
