Underwater Photogrammetry Course Rovinj 2017

International Centre for Underwater Archaeology in Zadar (ICUA) and Institute for Underwater Archaeology (ZAPA) from Slovenia are organizing Underwater Photogrammetry Course. Aim of this course is to teach all the participants the basic knowledge of photogrammetry process and how to implement it in everyday work. The accent is on underwater archaeology, but the knowledge gained from it could be applied in many other scientific and commercial domains. The software that will be used for photogrammetric modeling is Agisoft PhotoScan.

The course will take place on the 10th and 11th June 2017 in Rovinj County. Theoretical lectures will be conducted at the diving club “Rubin” in resort Villas Rubin, and practical exercises will be conducted in the underwater environs of archaeological site Mučje Sike near resort Villas Rubin.

More information
Lecture about underwater photography will provide the basic knowledge about underwater photography and all its specifics, also it will focus on the rules for taking photos in right manner for the needs of photogrammetry.
After the lecture, participants will have a chance of implementing the obtained knowledge on the field, through one dive on the archaeological site - guided photographing and filming of the site with different types of cameras.
Participants will then work on the obtained images and frames from videos on the computer. After the images are adapted, participants will begin the process of model making in photogrammetry software.

Second day is reserved for model processing and inspecting the faults that were made. Participants will learn how to get the necessary informations (dimensions, cross sections, plans...) from the final photogrammetric 3D model, and how to export it.

Courses requirements
The requirements for the Underwater Photogrammetry Course are Open Water Diver (OWD), CMAS* or an equivalent diving certificate, medical certificate ensuring fitness for diving and diving insurance.

Diving equipment should be brought by participants or it can be rented at a local diving club (expenses not covered by the organizers). The organizers will cover the costs of renting and filling diving air tanks during the course.

Participants should arrange transportation to resort Villas Rubin by themselves at their own expense.

Participants should arrange accommodation during the course by themselves at their own expense.

Optimal number of participants is 5-10, and organisers remain the right to cancel the course if the number of applicants is too low. Also, as soon as 10 people apply, organisers will stop accepting new participants, so send your applications as soon possible!

Course will be held in English, if English speakers apply.
