The fourth season of exploration at Piruzi

From 05. to 16. June 2017 the fourth research campaign on Piruzi rocks near Rovinj has been completed. This study is part of the multi-year project "Rovinj shipwrecks", carried out by ICUA Zadar in cooperation with the Tourist board of City of Rovinj and the Bavarian Society for Underwater Archaeology (BGfU).
With this year's exploration a systematic underwater excavation of shipwreck from late antiquity period near Piruzi is completed. Plans for future excavations on other sites of rich maritime heritage of Rovinj are being planned. During this year's project, in cooperation with slovenian ZAPA, an Underwater Photogrammetry Course has been conducted in which students from Croatia, Slovenia and Germany participated.
