Research vessel Hercules in Croatia again
This year's survey of Croatia's seabed with research vessel Hercules has finished. This is a continuation of cooperation between International Centre for Underwater Archaeology in Zadar, the Ministry of Culture of Croatia and the RPM Nautical Foundation of Florida. The Minister of Culture, Prof. Andrea Zlatar Violić, spent one working day on ship together with the research team. This year survey included seabed of Konavle north of cape Veliki Pač and Župa Bay with use of sonars (multi-beam). Sonars display several anomalies of seabed, possible shipwrecks. Few of interesting locations are discovered in greater depth, and these need to be examined with an underwater robot (ROV). Divers examined few interesting locations in depth up to 50m and the most interesting is a two mast sailing boat in the middle of Župa Bay and position with amphoras in front of Kupari. Acquired data requires further scientific analysis. The project is planned to continue next year with survey area further north.
