Bridge archaeology congress held in Regensburg

Bridge Archaeology, a gathering organised by the Bayerischen Gesellschaft für Unterwasserarchäologie (the Bavarian Society for Underwater Archaeology, BGfU) was held in Germany's Regensburg from November 4th to 8th marking the 25th anniversary of this eminent institution. The event focused on the themes of bridge and aqueduct research, in Germany in particular, but also in other countries such as Ireland, France, Great Britain, the Czech Republic, Russia, Poland, Romania, The Netherlands and Austria. The event included 48 lectures and numerous poster presentations, including one on research into what had been dubbed "Suleyman's Bridge", which in the 16th century led from Osijek to Darda. Research into this bridge has been organised by the Croatian Conservation Institute. A session of AKUWA at the congress was an opportunity for the official presentation of the International Centre for Underwater Archaeology in Zadar, including proposals for forms of international collaboration.
