Regional seminar in Zadar closes

A Regional Seminar on Underwater Heritage was held in Zadar from October 1st to 4th, 2009. The event was organised by the International Centre for Underwater Archaeology and the Croatian Ministry of Culture, with the support of UNESCO. The event pooled over 60 participants, organisers and UNESCO representatives. The participants, for the most part experts in the field of underwater archaeology, arrived from 21 countries in Europe and around the world. Also on hand to formally declare the Regional Seminar open was Croatian Minister of Culture Božo Biškupić. The seminar discussed the ratification and implementation of the Convention on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage and presented the best examples of international cooperation and protection projects. The practical part of the seminar involved the participants viewing methods and procedures for the conservation and restoration of underwater archaeological finds, including an opportunity for some hands-on application of some of these methods. The Regional Seminar closed with a Joint Statement adopted by all of the participants of the seminar. A number of events were organised during the seminar including book promotions, archaeological exhibitions, visits to museums and the like. Photos from these events are available for browsing in the Photo Gallery.
