Course for the restoration of underwater archaeological finds was held in Girona

The Center for Underwater Archaeology of Catalonia in Girona - Centre d’Arqueologia Subaquatica de Catalunya, held the course named Introduction to restoration of underwater archaeological finds on 16 and 17 May 2010.
This renowned center for underwater archeology is active in the area of Catalonia in Spain for 18 years, dealing with the discovery, protection and research of underwater sites and restoration of movable artifacts.
According to the profile of the participants of this course, it can be said that the course is envisioned as additional training for experienced professional restorers from various institutions and companies, with desire for additional knowledge of the specifics of underwater finds. Although labeled as an introductory course of restoration of underwater archaeological finds, excellent lecturers introduced the participants in almost all the secrets of the restoration of these specific findings. In addition to extensive theoretical lectures, practical workshops were held, where handling of different restoration equipment was tested and also use of different restoration documentation. The speakers were the director of MAC-CASC Xavier Nieto, Cati Agüer, associate restorer of MAC-CASC, Gustau Vivar, archaeologist of MAC-CASC, Jean-Bernard Memet director of A-CORROS company and Lluis Matas, restorer at the ABAC S.L. company.
The course was attended by representatives of the Croatian Conservation Institute and the International Centre for Underwater Archaeology in Zadar.
